Items that removalists cannot transport
Did you know that there are items which are forbidden to be carried by removalists?
No one likes surprises, so why don’t we find out in advance what items are forbidden from being transported by your removalist? Not carrying the items listed below will ensure the safety of you and your family while moving.
- The idea behind the exclusion is simple – safety. Due to safety of the removalists and your belongings, removalist license forbids the transportation of the following items.
- Flammables (fuels, sprays, paint tins, fireworks and anything flammable. Refer to hazard statement of the item’s container or packaging)
- Equipment and tools including lawnmowers containing flammable liquids
- Potentially poisonous items (pesticides, pool chemicals, car batteries. Refer to hazard statement of the item’s container or packaging)
- Fire extinguishers
- Animals (You wouldn’t want to transport your beloved pooch somewhere between your mattress and your fridge right?)
- Firearms and ammunition
- Certain plants cannot be transported interstate (Follow up)
Items not recommended to be loaded into the truck
There are also those items not covered by insurance or are simply too fragile to be transported in a truck:
- Collectables and memorabilia items
- Jewellery
- Cash
- ID documents
- There are also those items that a good removalist would not recommend moving via the truck:
- TV’s without original packaging
- Paintings
- Framed photographs
- Mirrors
- Glass tops
- Musical instruments without original or protective casing
- Important legal documents (ID’s, birth certificate, citizenship certificate, deeds, wills, bonds, stocks etc)
- Food in glass containers and other perishable food items
I’m not saying that your mover will break these items. But as movers pack a huge amount of items and furniture into the truck, some fragile items have a tendency to break during the move. On the moving day, it is always better to be safe than sorry after all.
Always use common sense and refer to your local laws. If in doubt you can always ask your local movers. (Be sure to ask in advance if you’re in doubt to arrange transportation as required)
Most importantly ask yourself these questions:
- “Will I be devastated if something was to happen to the item?”
- “Can I purchase the item after the move?”
