Moving in Waterways

Distinctive planned estate built post-2000 around eight constructed lakes and wetlands — townhouses, apartments and detached homes all built to the same era and standard.

Waterways is a bit of an outlier for the area — everything is post-2000, mostly townhouses and detached homes on smaller blocks arranged around the lakes. Because the whole estate was built as one piece, the streets, garage clearances and lift-friendly walk-ups are consistent. The main tight spot is the estate's narrow perimeter road (Waterways Boulevard) at the north end near Governor Road — a 12T can do it, but we prefer an 8T for jobs west of the lake. At 5km from Cheltenham depot this is one of our shortest runs.

Only 5km from Cheltenham — one of the shortest runs we make. Straight down Governor Road.

The process

How a Waterways move actually runs

Six steps, in order, from the moment you enter your address to the moment the crew leaves. Steps three to five are the ones that change from suburb to suburb — and in Waterways they are shaped by narrow streets & tight frontages.

  1. 1

Instant estimate, then a human check

Enter your Waterways address and the calculator returns a real number in about two minutes, built from the same pricing our crews are dispatched on. Our team then reviews the enquiry personally and comes back the same business day.

  2. 2

Your date, locked with a written quote

You get the truck size, the crew size, the hourly rate, the call-out and the surcharge (if you are moving on a weekend) in writing before you commit. Nothing on that sheet changes on move day unless you change the job.

  3. 3

Stairs, lifts and the walk to the truck

For Waterways unit blocks the question is how far the front door is from where a truck can legally stop, and whether there's a lift or a stair flight in between. That carry distance is the number that moves your quote — not the postcode. We map it at quote stage so the estimate you get is the estimate you pay.

  4. 4

Truck sized to the street, not just the load

Narrow streets around Waterways rule out the biggest trucks regardless of how much you own. We match the truck to what can actually turn into your street and get out again, and where that means a smaller truck plus a shuttle we price it that way from the start. Your crew leaves Cheltenham Depot minutes away, so the truck is at your door at the start of your window rather than an hour into it.

  5. 5

Packed to the room it is going to

We load by destination room, not by size, so the unload runs in the order you actually want it. Fragile items are wrapped individually, wardrobes travel on port-a-robes rather than folded into boxes, and the inventory is checked off as the truck fills.

  6. 6

    Placed, reassembled, and signed off

Beds go back together, furniture goes where you point rather than where it lands, and the crew does a final walk-through with you before they leave. Billing stops when the last item is placed — we bill by the minute after the two-hour minimum, not in rounded-up half hours.

That is the whole process — no step six-and-a-half. Start at step one and you will have a number for your Waterways move in about two minutes.

Indicative only. Your real quote depends on the actual drive between your two addresses, stairs, lifts and carry distance. Weekend and public-holiday surcharges are per crew member.

    Why it matters

AFRA accredited vs a cheap quote in Waterways

Anyone can put a truck on a website. AFRA — the Australian Furniture Removers Association — audits members every year on insurance, equipment, training and complaints handling. Here is what that difference looks like on a Waterways job.

What you are comparing Easy Peasy · AFRA member Non-accredited operator
Certificate of Currency for body corporate Issued on request, usually same day — standard paperwork for Waterways unit blocks with a body corporate. Frequently not held at all. Uninsured operators cannot produce one because there is nothing to certify.
Written quote before you commit Truck, crew, hourly rate, call-out and any weekend surcharge in writing before you book. Billed by the minute after the two-hour minimum. Verbal estimate over the phone, then a "the job was bigger than expected" conversation at the end of the day.
Vehicles and equipment Owned, maintained fleet of 20+ trucks with blankets, trolleys, straps and port-a-robes on board as standard. Hire truck booked that morning, with equipment charged separately or simply not carried.
Who actually turns up Uniformed, screened, trained employees. The same crews week after week, not a different pair each job. Subcontracted or casual labour with no background screening and no accountability back to the company.
If something goes wrong A documented complaints process, externally audited every year as an AFRA member, with an escalation path that ends at a named manager. No formal process. Your options are a chargeback, a bad review, or small claims.
Cancellations and no-shows A depot, a dispatcher and a backup truck. If a vehicle breaks down we send another one. One truck and one driver. A breakdown or a double-booking means your move simply does not happen that day.
Pricing after the job The rate you were quoted, billed to the minute. No fuel levy, no stair levy, no "heavy item" surprise. Low headline rate, then call-out fees, travel time, fuel surcharges and equipment hire added at the end.

    Who you are dealing with

The depot, the people and the company behind your Waterways move

A quote is only worth what the business behind it is worth. Here is who actually turns up, where they come from, and what we are accountable to.

    Your depot

    Cheltenham Depot

Unit 5/168 Chesterville Rd, Cheltenham VIC 3192

You are one of our closest suburbs. Trucks leave for Waterways first thing rather than after a cross-town run, which is why start times here hold.

Head office + secure indoor storage facility. This is where the fleet lives and where storage clients' goods are held.

Waterways is one of the suburbs we cover across South East. Same crews, same trucks and the same hourly rates apply right across the region, so if you are moving between South East suburbs — or out of South East entirely — it is the same team either way. Common questions

    Waterways moving — frequently asked

Are the streets in Waterways truck-friendly?

Mostly yes — the estate was designed with garages in mind. The one tight spot is Waterways Boulevard on the north side near Governor Road, where we size down to an 8T rather than force a 12T through.

How much does a Waterways townhouse move cost?

From $160/hr for a 2T van or $180/hr for a 4T truck with two removalists, 2-hour minimum. Most Waterways townhouses run 3-4 hours total including load, drive and unload. Run your address through the Instant Quote calculator for a full breakdown.

How much do removalists cost in Waterways?

From $160/hr for a 2T van or $180/hr for a 4T truck with two removalists, with a two-hour minimum and then billed by the minute. Most Waterways moves run on a 6T at around $190/hr, and at 5km from our Cheltenham Depot the travel component stays modest. Run your address through the Instant Quote calculator for a full breakdown in about two minutes.

How long does a Waterways move take?

A typical Waterways job runs 3–5 hours, based on the apartments & unit blocks we move here most often. Stairs, lift waits and carry distance are what move that number, which is why we ask about access before we ask about bedrooms.

Do you handle the parking and access issues in Waterways?

Yes. Narrow streets and tight frontages around Waterways rule out our biggest trucks regardless of how much you own, so we match the truck to what can actually turn into your street. Send a photo of the frontage when you book and we will size it properly rather than sending the biggest vehicle and hoping.

Can you move us on a weekend in Waterways?

Yes — Saturday and Sunday slots are available and they book out first, so give us as much notice as you can. Weekend work carries a surcharge paid per removalist (+$11/hr Saturday, +$22/hr Sunday on a two-removalist truck), and it is shown on your quote before you commit rather than added afterwards.

Which suburbs near Waterways do you also cover?

All of them. We regularly move between Waterways and Bentleigh East, Aspendale Gardens, Oakleigh South, Clayton South, McKinnon and Bentleigh. A move between two neighbouring suburbs is one of the most common jobs we run — short drive leg, same crew, same hourly rate.

Are you insured and AFRA accredited?

Yes. Easy Peasy Removals is an AFRA member, externally audited on insurance, equipment, driver conduct and complaints handling. We carry public liability and goods-in-transit cover, and we can issue a Certificate of Currency on request — usually the same day, which is what most buildings and body corporates ask for before they will release a lift booking.
