Less stress with moving? Be a minimalist!
Moving day is knocking on the door and you begin go through your stuff, sorting things, packing and prepping. Before you know it, you’ll soon start asking these questions:
- How on earth did we end up with all this stuff in the house?
- When was the last time I used this thing?
- When did I even buy this thing? What was I thinking?
Being a mover I’ve learnt from the mistakes of others and of course of my own. The lesson I learned was…..
“BE A MINIMALIST!”
Here is why: Life is a lot simpler than you think. Less stuff you have in your life, you’ll have less stress, less distractions, less time wasted on up keeping, greasing, cleaning, dusting and repairing. Here is something you probably didn’t know.
20:80 rule of wardrobe
Did you know that 80% of the time, you wear 20% of your clothes? The 80%, barely get worn if at all. Do yourself a favour, find out the 80% of the clothes that you do not wear often, and get rid of them! Think of all the time you spend shuffling through the clothes that you don’t wear to get to the ones you usually wear. Better yet all the time you will save for your moving day.
The unnecessary items
There are unnecessary items, and there are items that are costly, oversized and unnecessary. In my opinion, two of the worst culprits are dryers and treadmills. Let’s think about it for a second. They are both costly to purchase (and to run for the dryer), their main functions can easily be replaced at no cost. You don’t need a dryer to dry your clothes or a treadmill to run. You can hang your clothes on the clothesline out in the sun.
What about the treadmill? Go for a run outside where there is fresh air instead! Or if it rains you can always find a ton of FREE WEIGHT EXERCISES Videos on Youtube. Avoiding these two items will not only save you money upfront but will help reduce electricity bills and you won’t be left with a treadmill serving as a cloth hanger. Lastly, not having to move these items can save you $$ on your moving day.
Being a minimal list has own benefits, but it really shines when you move houses. You will be saving time on sorting and packing items, and most importantly you will likely to reduce your movers’ bill significantly.
