The service

Deceased estate clearance without the pressure

Clearing a deceased estate is rarely just a logistics job. Families are navigating grief, executor duties, probate timelines, sentimental decisions, and siblings living interstate — all at once. Our deceased estate clearance service is designed around that reality rather than against it. We move at your pace, work room-by-room when that helps, and never push families into decisions before they're ready to make them.

We're proper removalists — AFRA-accredited, insured, with our own trucks, packing crews and secure Cheltenham storage. That matters because most deceased estate work isn't just "get it out to the tip" — it's decisions about what to keep, what to store, what to donate, what to sell, and what to dispose of. Our storage depot means we can empty a house in a day and give your family months to make those decisions properly, rather than under grief-time pressure.

  • Free initial phone conversation and property walkthrough
  • Written estimate — no surprises, no hidden fees
  • Removal of all furniture, belongings and personal effects
  • Careful handling and packing of sentimental and valuable items
Who this is for

Executors, families and estate solicitors we work with

Executors handling probate. Adult children clearing a parent's home. Siblings coordinating from interstate. Estate solicitors managing on behalf of a family. Trustees for elderly relatives moving into care. If you're the person who has ended up responsible for clearing the property — regardless of your legal role — this service is designed for you.

Sensitive circumstances handled discreetly: hoarding, sudden death, prolonged illness, family conflict over belongings, disputed wills. We've worked through all of these and none of them are unusual to us.

How it works

How our deceased estate clearance works

  1. 1

    A quiet phone conversation first

Send us the enquiry form or call. We arrange a time that suits you — days or weeks away is fine. First conversation is about understanding your situation, not selling you a service. No obligation.

  2. 2

    Property walkthrough at your pace

We visit the property with you (or your solicitor / a family member if you'd rather not be there). Walk through room by room, discuss what you want to keep, what should go where. Written estimate follows within 24-48 hours.

  3. 3

Clearance day — or clearance week

Depending on the estate, one day or several. Family belongings and sentimental items packed with the same care as a standard removal. Everything sorted into the categories you've set: keep / store / donate / sell / dispose. Nothing goes without your say-so.

  4. 4

Storage for as long as you need it

Anything you want to sort at your own pace goes to our secure Cheltenham depot. Access is available whenever you need it, and you can add or remove items over the following weeks or months. When you're ready, we finalise donations, sales or disposal.

Not sure where to start?

A brief phone conversation is often the easiest way to talk through your situation. No obligation, no pressure — just an experienced ear.

Common questions

Deceased estate clearance — frequently asked questions

How much does deceased estate clearance cost in Melbourne and Sydney?

Deceased estate clearance costs vary considerably depending on the size of the property, the volume of belongings, and what services you need (removal only vs removal + storage + sorting + disposal). A 2-bedroom apartment estate might run $1,800-$3,500. A 3-4 bedroom family home is usually $3,500-$7,500. Complex estates with hoarding or extensive belongings quote per-project after the walkthrough. Every quote is written, itemised, and given without obligation. We don't charge for the initial phone conversation or the walkthrough.

How long does it take to clear a deceased estate?

Physical clearance of a 2-3 bedroom home is usually one day. A larger home or an estate with substantial belongings might be two or three days. The full process — including sorting, decisions about keep/donate/dispose, coordinating with charities and (if applicable) auction houses — typically takes 2-6 weeks total. If you're using our storage while you sort, families often take 2-6 months to work through everything at their own pace. There's no rush.

What if we're awaiting probate?

Common situation. Under Australian law, executors have some scope to preserve and protect the estate's property (including moving it to storage) before probate is granted. Contentious estates — where beneficiaries disagree, or the will is disputed — sometimes require legal advice before belongings are moved. If you're unsure, we'll happily wait until you have advice or probate is granted. Our storage is available on month-to-month terms so there's no commitment to a timeline that doesn't fit yours.

Can you handle valuable items — jewellery, antiques, artworks?

Yes. Valuables are packed and transported to the same standard as any high-value removal we do. If you want items valued professionally before decisions are made, we work with reputable auction houses (Leonard Joel in Melbourne, Bonhams and Shapiro in Sydney) and can coordinate valuations. We don't appraise items ourselves — that's a specialist role — but we can put you in touch with the right people.

What happens to items you dispose of?

Where possible, items go to charity — Vinnies, Salvos, Anglicare, Sacred Heart Mission and Brotherhood of St Laurence all do free deceased-estate pickups if the volume warrants it. Recyclables (paper, cardboard, metal, electronics) go to recycling. General rubbish goes to landfill. We keep records of what went where in case you or an executor need to account for it later.

How does storage-included deceased estate clearance work?

Most families want the house emptied quickly — often because it's being sold or handed back to a landlord — but need weeks or months to make decisions about what to keep, what to donate, and what to sell. Our storage depot in Cheltenham lets us empty the house in a day, put everything in secure storage, and give you access whenever you want to sort. When you're ready, we finalise: what stays with you, what goes to charity, what gets sold, what's disposed of. Storage is charged monthly and you can add or remove items at any time. See our deceased estate storage and removal page for details.

Can you coordinate if I'm interstate?

Frequently. Adult children living in Sydney whose parent has passed in Melbourne (or vice versa) is one of our most common scenarios. We can act on your behalf with the solicitor, real estate agent, or building manager. We can send you photos, video walkthroughs, or itemised inventories as the clearance progresses. Where family members want to fly in for a day to select sentimental items, we work around their timing.

Do you work with estate solicitors and executors directly?

Yes. If a solicitor is managing the estate on the family's behalf, we can invoice and coordinate directly with their office. Standard business terms (14, 30, 60 days) available. Certificate of currency for our insurance is provided on request — often required by solicitors before we can enter the property.

Can you handle hoarding, sudden death, or difficult circumstances?

Yes, with care. Hoarding requires more time, more crew, and often specialist rubbish disposal — but we've done many. Sudden deaths sometimes involve properties where the deceased had been unwell for a long time; we handle these with discretion. For circumstances requiring biohazard cleaning (unattended deaths, prolonged decomposition) we refer to a certified trauma cleaning partner first, then complete the residential clearance once that's finished. We'll talk through your specific situation in the initial phone conversation.

Are you AFRA accredited?

Yes. Easy Peasy Removals is accredited by the Australian Furniture Removers Association — the industry's professional standard. AFRA members are audited on training, equipment, insurance and practice. You can verify our membership at afra.com.au.

What insurance is included?

Every move includes public liability and goods-in-transit insurance covering damage or loss during transport. For items of exceptional value we can arrange additional coverage — mention them when you enquire.

Do you provide boxes and packing materials?

Yes. Quality moving boxes, tape, bubble wrap and protective materials delivered before your move. You can also add a full packing service so our team does the wrapping and boxing.

Do you move oversized or specialist items?

We move pool tables, home gyms, oversized furniture, garage workshops and most heavy household items. For concert-grade pianos, fine art or wine collections, tell us at enquiry so we can recommend the right transport method.
