What "business relocation" actually covers

A business relocation isn't just an office move — it's furniture, IT infrastructure, filing systems, break-out kitchens, meeting-room fitouts, signage, and everything that has to be re-plugged, re-cabled and re-labelled at the other end. The whole thing has to happen in a window that doesn't break your operations, which usually means weekends, evenings or a staged plan.

We've moved everything from 5-person startups in Cremorne to 300-desk corporate floors in the CBD, including Victorian government departments and enterprise clients. See our canonical Melbourne office moving page for the full service breakdown.

Typical business-relocation costs in Melbourne

  • Small office (3–10 people): 6T truck at $190/hr, typically 3–3.5 hrs plus travel. Estimated $750–$1,000.
  • Medium office (11–20 people): 8T truck at $200/hr, typically 3.5–4.5 hrs plus travel. Estimated $900–$1,250.
  • Large office (21–30 people): 10T truck at $210/hr, typically 5–7 hrs plus travel. Estimated $1,150–$1,600.
  • Full-floor / enterprise: Multi-truck fleet, staged plan, quoted after site walkthrough.

Downtime planning

Choosing a move window for your Melbourne business

The move window matters more than the move itself. Most clients pick one of these four.

Move windowBest forBusiness impact
Friday evening → Saturday Offices up to ~40 desks Staff leave Friday, start at the new desk Monday
Full weekend Larger offices, heavy IT or fit-out work No trading days lost; Sunday kept for IT testing
Staged floor-by-floor Multi-floor and enterprise moves Teams move in waves, the business never fully stops
Weeknight after-hours Small suites and single teams Back at work next morning
Timeline

A typical Melbourne business relocation timeline

Working back from move day. Smaller offices can compress this; enterprise moves often start earlier.

  1. 6–8 weeks out: walkthrough & scope

We inspect both sites, note lifts, loading docks and parking, and give you a written scope with crew size, trucks, timing and price.

  2. 4–6 weeks out: building approvals

Book goods lifts and loading docks with both building managers. We send our Certificate of Currency directly to them.

  3. 2–3 weeks out: floor plan & labels

You give us the destination seating plan; we colour-code it and supply labels so every desk, crate and monitor has a destination.

  4. Move window: pack, move, rebuild

Uniformed crews dismantle workstations, move IT gear and furniture, and rebuild everything to the floor plan.

  5. First morning: settle-in support

Desks, chairs and equipment are in place before staff arrive. Anything out of place is fixed on the spot.

Business relocation checklist — the admin people forget

The physical move is our job. These are the items that usually catch businesses out afterwards.

  • Book internet and phone connection at the new premises early — lead times can run to weeks
  • Update your address with the ATO, ASIC and your bank
  • Update your Google Business Profile, website and email signatures
  • Update the address on invoices, quotes and order templates
  • Tell your business insurer about the new premises before move day
  • Redirect mail through Australia Post for the transition period
  • Notify key clients and suppliers of the move date
  • Plan IT shutdown and test time — servers, printers and phones

Common questions

Business relocation Melbourne — FAQs

How much does a business relocation cost in Melbourne?

A small office of 3–10 people typically runs $750–$1,000, a medium office of 11–20 people $900–$1,250, and 21–30 people around $1,500–$2,000. Full-floor and enterprise moves are fixed-price after a site walkthrough.

Can you move our office over a weekend?

Yes. Weekend and after-hours windows are our normal pattern for business relocations, so you don't lose trading days.

Do you handle IT equipment?

Yes. We dismantle, move and reassemble workstations, monitors, printers and server and network gear, coordinated with your IT team's shutdown and testing windows.

Can you provide a Certificate of Currency for our building?

Yes, as standard. We send it directly to the building manager at both the old and new premises.

How far ahead should we book a business relocation?

Six to eight weeks is ideal for offices over 20 people, mainly because building lift bookings and internet installs need lead time. Smaller offices can often be moved with two to three weeks' notice.

Do you work with government departments?

Yes. We're AusTender registered and hold framework agreements with state departments, with purchase-order invoicing available.

Can you store furniture during a fit-out?

Yes. If your new premises aren't ready, we can hold furniture and equipment in secure storage and deliver it when the fit-out is finished.
