Oh no, my movers are not here!
If you live in one of the major cities around the world, the chances are you have a good idea how horrible traffic jam could get. How many times did you get stuck in a traffic jam? I live in the city of Melbourne, so I know how it feels, moving at a snail’s pace behind a tram. I can tell you right now that Melbourne Removalists can write books about that.
I guess the scary thing about it is that you can never guess when there might be a delay due to an unforeseen traffic condition. Unfortunately, it may happen right on your big moving day. After all the planning and preparations, your kids are at their grandparents’ and you are standing by, only to receive a text saying that your movers are running late (Moving Companies will usually send you a courtesy text, if you don’t get a text: be sure to call their office to get an updated ETA).
You may not have the power to control the traffic conditions, but that doesn’t make you powerless. It’s actually quite the opposite. Once you determine how much time you have left until the movers’ arrival, you can utilize what may have been an idle, waste of time into cash in your wallet.
Wondering how? Here are some ideas.
Converting wait time to money savings
If you’ve already read our tips on how to save $$$ on your moving day, you already familiar with the general idea, but just in case it has been a while, or you haven’t had the chance yet, I will give you some quick tips.
- Try to move all items and boxes as close as you can to the entrance as possible(but be sure not to block off your entrance, its ideal to have bigger and bulky furniture and items loaded first, so plan ahead, and plan smart)
- Unplug washing machine and dryer
- Unplug the fridge and ensure that it’s empty
- Start dismantling your furniture if you haven’t already done so
- Check to ensure that movers have clear access to your property. Secure the mover’s parking spot by parking your car, or even rubbish bins can be placed
These tips will reduce the moving time, and this means you’ve got more cash in your pocket to spend on your holiday or maybe even a new car.
To sum everything up, it all begins with your search for furniture removalist. How thorough was your research? Have you checked the reviews? Asked for recommendations or referrals? Companies with excellent track records in terms of stellar reviews and/or referrals friends tend to be on time, and if they are ever behind schedule, these companies will always send you a courtesy message to give you an update.
However, there are many fake reviews and inflated Google ratings for small businesses. It’s easy to fall for a fake 5-star rating. In the article “What reviews really mean and how to spot fake reviews”, we give you insight into how to spot fake or inflated reviews. I’m sure it will come in handy. And while you’re on it, check our 5-star ratings to see why we are the genuinely top-rated Melbourne removalist company.
